5 Ways to Decorate Your Home This Diwali

1. Dress the front door

The entrance is the first thing Lakshmi is said to see. Hang a marigold or pearl toran across the frame, add a pair of flower strings down each side, and finish with Ganesh wall hangings at eye level. It takes ten minutes and transforms the whole approach to your home.
→ Toran · Flower Strings · Ganesh Wall Hangings

2. Build a floating urli centrepiece

Fill a hammered urli with water, float fresh marigold heads and a few tealight diyas, and set it on the dining table or in the entryway. A 9-piece set gives you one large bowl plus floating diyas — the single highest-impact piece you can buy.
→ Urli & Diya Sets > Led Diya & Floating Diya

3. Line the stairs and balcony with diyas

Spacing diyas evenly along a staircase edge, railing or balcony ledge creates the classic Diwali glow from outside. In Canadian weather, water-activated LED diyas are the safe outdoor choice — they look like real flame and survive the wind.
→ LED Lights & LED Diya

4. Lay a rangoli at the threshold

No chalk, no mess, no restarting. Metal and acrylic rangoli sets lay flat on the floor or a side table, catch candlelight beautifully, and pack away to reuse next year. Place Lakshmi charan paduka leading from the door inward.
→ Rangoli Sets · Lakshmi Charan Paduka

5. Set up the mandir

Clean and re-dress your puja space: a fresh chowki, Shubh Labh on either side, a brass or silver Lakshmi–Ganesh pair at the centre, and a small flower garland. Add a pooja thali with space for diya, kumkum, rice and prasad.

Fancy Diya and Tealight Candle Holders

  • Traditional Brass & Metal Diyas: Mention Brass Deepam, Lotus Diyas, Hanging Brass Diyas with Bells, Akhand Jyot, and Shadow Diyas.
  • Hammered Urli Bowls & Sets: Mention floating flower and tealight urli centerpiece bowls (single bowls and 6-piece / 9-piece Taj urli stands).

Diwali Door Torans, Bandhanwar & Artificial Marigold Garlands

A toran across the doorway is the oldest piece of Diwali decorating there is - the signal that your home is ready to welcome Lakshmi. Pearl and moti torans suit a formal entrance, fabric flower and marigold styles bring colour to an apartment door, and zari work reads richest under warm light. Measure your frame first: most of our torans are made for a standard 32–36 inch door, and a pair of hanging flower strings down each side completes the look.

Shubh Labh Decorations

Shubh Labh — "auspiciousness" and "prosperity" - is hung on either side of the main door or the mandir, traditionally alongside a swastik. Lightweight acrylic and pearl versions start at $6 and go up with removable tape, which matters if you're renting. Handcrafted zari, resin and beadwork pieces are heavier and meant to come out year after year.

Great Gift ideas for Diwali

Diwali gifting in Canada is usually a logistics problem more than a taste problem — everyone's spread across three provinces. Enter a different shipping address at checkout and we'll send directly to them with a gift note. Brass pooja thalis and silver idols are the safe choice for elders and Dhanteras; smaller decor pieces, diya sets and rangoli work well for friends, hosts and colleagues.

Pure Silver Lakshmi–Ganesh Idols for Dhanteras & Diwali Puja

Buying silver on Dhanteras is one of the few Diwali traditions almost every family keeps. Our pure silver range is 925 sterling and 999 fine — the purity is stated on every product page, never implied. Lakshmi–Ganesh pairs are the traditional Dhanteras purchase for the mandir, while smaller Ganesha and Hanuman idols are sized for a car dashboard or an office desk.

Diwali Decorations

The finishing pieces: ceiling jhoomar, hanging lanterns, Happy Diwali banners, wall hangings and party decor. If you're hosting, these are what turn a decorated entrance into a decorated house — and the banners and jhoomar are the things people actually photograph.

Pearl and Marigold Toran used in Diwali Decorations in Canada and the USA

Diwali Decoration and Gift Ideas

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated each autumn in the Hindu month of Kartik, falling between October and November. It marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile and his victory over Ravana — a homecoming the people of Ayodhya lit with rows of oil lamps. Families today keep that tradition alive, lighting their homes and shops with diyas and offering prayers to Lord Ganesh for wellbeing, Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity, and Goddess Saraswati for wisdom. For families celebrating in Canada and the USA, sourcing authentic decor has always meant waiting on a parcel from India or settling for whatever's left on a shelf. Krishna Collections exists to fix that. Every piece is chosen from artisans and suppliers in India, then stocked and shipped from our warehouse in Halifax, Nova scotia — so you get genuine festive decor with domestic delivery times and no customs surprises. Our Diwali range covers brass and metal diyas, floating urli sets, tealight candle holders, marigold and pearl torans, bandanwar, ready-made rangoli, artificial flower lengths and garlands, LED and water-activated lights, Shubh Labh and Lakshmi charan paduka, pooja thalis and accessories, and a full collection of brass, silver-coated, pure silver and gold-plated idols. Whether you're decorating your first apartment in Halifax, hosting forty people in Brampton, or sending a gift to family in Surrey, everything you need is here. Shubh Deepavali from all of us at Krishna Collections.

Your Diwali 2026 Shopping Guide — Day by Day

Shubh labh wall hanging with Shubh Deepavali

Diwali isn't one day — it's five. Here's what each day traditionally calls for, and what to have ready at home before the celebrations begin.

1

Day 1 - Dhanteras · Fri 6 November

Dhanteras honors Dhanvantari and Goddess Lakshmi, and tradition holds that buying metal on this day invites prosperity into the home for the year ahead. Brass, silver and gold are the auspicious choices — a small Lakshmi or Ganesh idol, a brass urli, a puja thali, or silver coins for the mandir.
